What Our Guests Say

Wonderful Stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Altland House Inn and Suites. I really like this type of hotel. We get bored with the monotony of big chain hotels, and sometimes B & B’s can feel too close and stuffy. The Altland House is accommodating, yet spacious enough to not feel like you’re tripping over the other guests. It’s unique and cozy with an OUTSTANDING restaurant and bar on the main level and a smaller lounge in the basement. We were immediately welcomed to the Altland House by Emily, who was professional, knowledgeable and cordial, with a flare for multi-tasking. She checked us in, made a “preferred guest seating” reservation for dinner and personally showed us to our room. We ran into the same attention from every employee we came across; from the servers in the restaurant to the bartender in the lounge, where we were treated to some excellent live music by, “Faded Denim”. It’s clear that a professional decorator was involved in the design of the hotel decor, from the attention given to the individual upstairs guest rooms and suites, down to the lush, rich carpeting throughout the inn. Our room had a claw foot tub, and the walls throughout had framed lithographs of butterflies and flowers that harkened back to the Victorian era of design, yet everything was brand new. (Kind of like time traveling and being around antiques before they get old.) The modern, four-poster bed blended artfully with the decor. It was very neat and comfortable with fine linens and lots of pillows. The claw foot tub was dreamy, and if soaking isn’t your thing, there’s a nice stall shower in the bathroom. This is a true antique hotel, so there is no elevator. You may want to take that into consideration if steps are an issue for you. The Altland House is one of the longest continuously operating inn’s in the country, and you can feel the history at every turn. It’s located directly on the town square traffic circle on Rte. 30 in Abbottstown, Pa. We liked that the Altland House was only about fifteen easy minutes from Gettysburg, because it had all of the same historic charm, without all of the foot and traffic congestion you tend to find in the famed battleground and college town. We stayed on the second floor, facing Route 30, and were actually quite pleased with our street side location. We had views of a picturesque, historic brick building aside a gated vintage garden across the street. Next time, we’re staying longer

Historic Gem!

Everything about the Altland House is 5 stars. The staff, food, ambiance, homemade craft brews, and the room and service were all terrific. The room was clean and comfortable. I came back the next day before my long drive home and had a delicious meal. I was given a private tour of the renovated rooms and the brewery downstairs. . I plan on returning for a weekend with my wife in the very near future
